De Franse havenstad Calais is het belangrijkste punt voor ongedocumenteerde migranten die van het Europese vaste land de oversteek naar Groot-Brittannië willen wagen. De migranten hebben te maken met extreem repressieve maatregelen. In juni 2009 vond een ‘NoBorder’ kamp plaats tegen Fort Europa in het algemeen en de situatie in Calais in het bijzonder. Sinds dit kamp is er een internationale groep activisten in Calais gebleven om te blijven actie voeren, directe solidariteit en praktische ondersteuning te bieden aan de migranten. Het voornaamste doel is om samen met de migranten te strijden voor het recht op vrije migratie.

Aanstaande woensdag 5 mei is er een benefiet in Schijnheilig georganiseerd door Cacophony Collective en Calais Migrant Solidarity om deze acties te ondersteunen.

About Cacophony Collective: Cacophony is a collective that supports organizations/individuals who work towards a world in which equality, respect, love and compassion are the keywords, not money, fear and control. We do this by providing these people with money, cause unfortunately; we need cash to fight the cash! Since we don’t have huge bank accounts we raise money by organizing fundraisers throughout the Netherlands and because not everyone likes fast punk rock and we like diversity (yes!), a cacophony fundraiser can be a russian disco, playback show, film night with snacks, hip-hop party, art exhibition,jump-style-a-go-go dancing night, karaoke night, experimental noise concert, tekno party, punk show or…you name it! More

About Calais Migrant Solidarity:
We are a group of people who went to the No Borders camp in Calais in June 2009. We are from different countries. We met and got involved with various groups of migrants in Calais trying to cross the channel, taking food to some of the ‘jungles’, giving information about the UK, doing basic medic work and generally talking. We want to continue these links and continue providing direct aid and show our solidarity with people who are denied the basics of life – decent food, shelter, freedom of movement. We’ve worked under the No Borders banner because we believe people should be as free to travel as the lorries that make Europe rich. More

CMS-NL is een netwerk van mensen die (geregeld) naar Calais afreizen om daar actie te voeren en ondersteunend werk te doen. Tevens heeft het CMS-NL netwerk zich ten doel gesteld de situatie in Calais beter bekend te maken in Nederland, dit door middel van bijvoorbeeld benefiet-feesten, infoavonden en publicaties. Tegelijkertijd hopen de CMS-NL mensen dat de strijd in Calais inspirerend zal zijn om ook in de eigen omgeving actief te worden tegen de verschrikkelijke uitwassen van het bekrompen migratiebeleid in Europa.
